Breath Of The Wild For Nintendo Switch

Breath Of The Wild For Nintendo Switch

Okay, so let's talk about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You know, the one everyone raves about. The one that people say is the best game ever. Well, I have a tiny little confession to make.

I kind of... don't get it. At least, not entirely. And before you throw your Master Sword at me, hear me out. It's not that it's bad! It's just... different. Very, very different.

When I first booted up Breath of the Wild on my Nintendo Switch, I was expecting classic Zelda. You know, dungeons, a clear story, a big bad guy to vanquish with a fancy new item. You know the drill.

Instead, I got... a lot of grass. And trees. And rocks. And mountains. So. Many. Mountains.

And then there's the whole weapon breaking thing. Oh, the weapon breaking! It's like Link has the strength of a thousand warriors, but the durability of a wet paper towel.

Every time I found a cool-looking sword, my heart would do a little flutter. "Ooh, this looks powerful!" I'd think. Then I'd take it into battle for approximately three seconds, and snap! Gone. Poof. Into the great Hyrule beyond.

It's like going to a buffet and only being allowed to eat one bite of each dish. Frustrating? A little. But also... kind of hilarious? Maybe? I'm still deciding.

And the puzzles! Everyone talks about how clever the Shrines are. And they are clever, I'll give them that. Some of them are genuinely brain-bending. But then there are the ones where you have to push a block onto a pressure plate. Again.

It's like, "Really, Nintendo? Is this the peak of my problem-solving skills?" I feel like I'm back in kindergarten learning about cause and effect.

Then there's the freedom. The enormous freedom. Which is supposed to be a good thing, right? And it is! Mostly. But sometimes, it's just overwhelming. Where do I go? What do I do? There's no hand-holding here!

I remember spending hours just wandering. Looking at the scenery. Trying to find a stable so I could get a horse. Because apparently, running everywhere gets old. Who knew?

The "story" is also... very sparse. Link wakes up, has amnesia (a classic!), and needs to save Princess Zelda. Okay, got it. But the details? You have to piece them together from memories you find scattered across the map. Which is neat, in theory.

But I'm a gamer who likes a good narrative. I want to feel invested in the characters. I want to know why Ganon is so evil and what his master plan is beyond "being evil."

Instead, I get glimpses of conversations from the past. It's like watching a movie with half the scenes missing. You get the gist, but you miss out on all the juicy character development.

And don't even get me started on the rain. Oh, the rain. It makes everything slippery. Climbing? Forget about it. You'll just slide right back down, looking like a sad, defeated Link.

I swear, I've spent more time stuck at the bottom of a mountain than I have actually on top of one. It's a constant battle against the elements. And sometimes, the elements win.

But here's the really unpopular opinion part. Despite all these little gripes, I still find myself drawn back to it. It's like a really annoying but also incredibly charming friend.

You complain about them, you roll your eyes, but you can't imagine life without them. There's something about the sheer scale of Hyrule. The quiet beauty of the landscape.

And yes, even the weapon breaking. It forces you to be resourceful. To try different approaches. To not get too attached to your shiny new sword.

It's a game that rewards curiosity. It doesn't give you a neat checklist of things to do. It lets you discover things for yourself.

And when you do stumble upon something amazing? Like a hidden shrine, or a Korok seed, or a breathtaking vista? That feeling is something else.

It's like finding a secret in your own backyard. It feels earned. It feels special.

So, while I might not be shouting from the rooftops that Breath of the Wild is the best game ever made, I can definitely see the appeal. It's a different kind of Zelda. A more… wild kind of Zelda.

It's not the Zelda I grew up with, but it's a Zelda that has carved out its own unique space in the gaming world. And for that, I guess I can forgive it for all the slippery mountains and broken swords.

Maybe. We'll see when the next one comes out.

But for now, I'm going to go climb something. And probably slide back down. Repeatedly.

It's all part of the adventure, right?

Right?

I'm still not entirely sure.

But hey, at least the music is nice. And the art style is gorgeous. So, there's that.

And the fact that I can make Link wear a dress. That's... a feature.

A very important, and highly underrated, feature.

So yeah. Breath of the Wild. It's a thing. A big, beautiful, slightly baffling thing.

And I'm... playing it. For some reason.

Maybe I'll get to Ganon eventually. Or maybe I'll just spend another hour trying to catch a fish.

The world is my oyster. Or, you know, my slightly damp, breakable sword.

Whatever. At least the cooking is fun.

And the horses are cute. Even if they do run away sometimes.

It's a good thing there are so many of them.

And so many apples.

So many apples.

I think I'm going to go make an apple pie now.

Link might need it.

After all this climbing and sliding and sword-breaking.

He deserves a break. And so do I.
