August 22, 2008
The upcoming 2009 edition of the Taft Union High School Derrick yearbook won a second place award of achievement for its theme and portfolio at Taylor Publishing’s yearbook camp at Pepperdine University Aug. 1. Yearbook adviser Lisa Borrecco took seven students with her to the week long camp to plan the yearbook. Students from more than 100 Western junior highs, high schools and colleges attend the annual planning conference. “This is the first time I have won in my three years of attending camp. I am so proud of these girls and look forward to another great book for next year! I have a feeling it's going to be one of the best ones since I've been on staff.”

The students attending were: Jordan Mead, advertising editor; Melissa Miller, copy editor; Paige Schoneweis, sports editor; Courtney Houle, people pages editor; Lizett Uribe, academics pages editor; Zulma Heraldez, editor-in-chief; and Adrianna Ferrer, student life editor.

The forthcoming 2009 yearbook can be purchased in the high school business office for $50 with an Associated Student Body card or $55 without the card during the first week of school. After that, prices will rise in $5 increments throughout the school year. The book will be distributed near the end of the school year.
