New Tax on Tanning, Leaving Customers Feeling "Burnt"

As a part of the colossal and infamous Health Care Bill, indoor tanning salons are now facing a 10% surcharge on their services.
The tax, which projects a generation of $2.7billion over ten years, has caused uproar in the fake bake business. The Tanning Tax replaced the original 5% "Botax" which would have included cosmetic surgeries and injections. Many in the industry are unhappy with the change, believing that the tax targets middle and working class women, whereas the "Botax" would have hit wealthier Americans who could handle the increase.
Others claim the tax is a potential violation of the Constitution as some see a race issue since the tax will primarily affect white patrons and subsequently violate the right to equal protection under the Constitution.
While there is public outcry across the nation, local tanning salons have not seen or felt the effect of the tax. Magic Tan employee and stylist, Rosemary Gonzalez said, "I don't see that it has affected anything, I haven't seen anyone make a complaint about it and I haven't seen a difference at all."
