Taft Transplants 32 Mature Trees From Bakersfield, Rails to Trails Benefits

The City of Taft has agreed to purchase 32 mature trees from the city of Bakersfield and transplant the trees to the city's Rails to Trails park. Melissa Iger of the Tree Foundation of Kern and Bud Rice of the City of Taft have arranged for the purchase, transport and replanting of the trees along the city's linear park to provide shade and improve the park before Oildorado 2010. Some of the trees, which are up to 10 years old, are 15 feet tall. The trees are being removed by the City of Bakersfiled to make room for construction of the Westside Parkway and Calloway Drive Interchange.
