Taft College's Associate Dean of Instruction Val Garcia spoke at the Taft Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting on Wednesday about the college's new math and science programs.
Garcia discussed how the college is working with local schools to get young people excited about math and the sciences.
Garcia described the college's new STEM program, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, which will introduce students into the world of science and math.
"The STEM program is designed to introduce students to math and science in a nontraditional way," said Garcia.
Taft College expects to receive a new mobile technology lab in a few weeks. The vehicle will travel to local schools and expose students to the sciences while promoting Taft College programs.
