Pledging to break a previous world record of 8,021 pizza's baked and sold in a 24 hour period, Taft Domino's Pizza Owner Bob Leikam today announced that his pizza store will top the previous record by baking and selling 10,000 pizza's during the city's Oildorado festival in October 2010.
"I want to do it for Taft," said Leikam. "I am asking all former and current Domino's employees and delivery persons to come and help us," he added.
A Domino's Pizza store in Gulf Port, Mississippi set the Guinness world record at 8,021 pizza's on August 2, 2008.
With several employees standing behind him, Leikam announced that he wanted to challenge the previous record during the city's Oildorado Days celebration and believed that he and his crew could do it.
Leikam said that to accomplish the goal, his shop would need 2000 pounds of cheese, 815 pounds of pepperoni, and 10,000 dough patties.
"We can handle about 400 pizza's per hour," Leikam said. "Our crew is ready to do this.
Leikam said that it would take about 50 employees working in shifts for a 24 hour period beginning at 12:01 a.m. on October 23rd and ending at midnight.
Leikam said that Domino's is taking up his challenge and will provide his store with on site storage of pizza boxes, and refrigerated trucks to store the addition food products.
"We are looking forward to the challenge and breaking the record," Leikam said.
Leikam explained that Guinness will have observers on site and count each pizza as it is removed from the oven and sold.
The Taft Oildorado Days is a 10 day celebration of the city's oil heritage which attracts over 30,000 to the every-five year event. The event begins on October 15th and ends on October 24th.
2010 is also the 100th Birthday of the incorporation of the City of Taft.
