Tumbleweed Festival Coming to Derby Acres Saturday, July 11th

The Derby Acres Tumbleweed Festival will take place on Saturday, July 11th and promises to bring lots of family fun and entertainment to the rural West Kern County community.
Located 10 miles north of Taft on the newly designated "Petroleum Highway" 33, the Tumbleweed Festival will take place in what Tumbleweed Bar and Cafe owner, Orchel Krier says "is in the heart of oil country".
Krier, who is promoting the event to bring people together and discover the uniqueness of the Westside of Kern County, said that people he has spoken too likes the idea of a festival and is planning to havew a very successful event.

“We have over 30 vehicles registerd for the car show, and lot of interest expressed in the horse shoe tournament,” said Krier.
Krier also said there would be a tubleweed decorating contest. He said those who wish to enter must bring their own decorated tumbleweed. The tumbleweeds will be judged by a panel of tumbleweed decorating experts with an award being handed out for best decorated tumbleweed and another for most unique. There is no charge for entries.
The event will also host a chili cook-off contest, a classic car and motorcycle show, live DJ Music entertainment, a children's bounce house, a dunk tank and several arts and craft vendors, raffle prizes. Krier said he is trying to arrange paid helicopter tours of oil country.
Awards in the chili cook-off contest will be given in several categories, with a people’s choice category.
