Dear Governor Schwarzenegger:
I am writing you to express my extreme opposition to the state borrowing, shifting, delaying payment of, not funding, call it what you want – misappropriating, no, just plain stealing local Government revenues of any kind. Within the past 6 years the money coming into the state coffers has always been spent at a higher rate than it has been received. In times of plenty this state serviced no debt but spent money with reckless abandon and in doing so produced what is today a deplorable model of financial irresponsibility.
In our small city we passed a balanced budget amendment and we stick with it, living within our means to safeguard the well being and quality of life of our citizens. As elected representatives that is our task and we take it very seriously.
One last point, for the Legislature to issue a statement that they will not fund Prop 42 is a slap in the face of every voter in the State of California, whether it is a business that buys fuel 10,000 gallons at a time, a housewife who buys a tank of gas to take the kids to Little League practice or a 10 year old kid who collected aluminum cans to buy 2 gallons of gas for a dirt bike. Prop 42 was funded by the public! The fact that those monies never reached the roads and highways they were intended for was the fault of those in power in Sacramento that abused the trust of the voters. Such financial misdeeds in the private sector would result in those responsible being prosecuted for criminal misconduct.
We are all fed up with the cheap carnival slight of hand and shell games. It’s time to man up and do what is right by the taxpayers. IT’S THEIR MONEY!
Very truly yours,
Dave Noerr, Mayor
